- #80 Best Public High Schools in KansasIndependence Senior High SchoolIndependence Unified School District, KS•9-12•Rating 3.47 out of 5 75 reviewsAlum: Independence Senior High school was the singlehandedly most amazing high school experience I've known of compared to my friends from out of town. Our diversity and inclusivity is great, respect towards teachers and staff is fantastic, and the overall education system and school setup in general is outstanding. I may not have done great in high school, bu that had nothing to do with the quality of this incredible school district. My teachers and counselors did everything that they could to help me and I should've taken advantage of that when I had the chance to. I thank everyone who works for or who has ever worked for Independence Senior High and pray that current and future students don't take opportunities like this for granted.... - Hope Lutheran SchoolSeattle, WA•Private School•PK, K-8•Rating 4.5 out of 5 2 reviewsParent: I have 2 children at Hope Lutheran School. They both started there in preschool (which was excellent) and now my oldest is in middle school at Hope. Academically, Hope has been wonderful. Each teacher is able to meet each child where they are at to encourage and support them. Hope has an extra resource teacher to help support children in areas where they are struggling. And they offer the ability to challenge academically strong students as well (for example: advanced math classes). We’ve been very happy with the academics at Hope.Socially, Hope is a really nurturing place for the kids. Not only does Hope teach the academic education, but they also teach the children how to be kind, caring, good people to each other. They learn responsibility and skills for organizing themselves and tips on how to handle stress. The school (in non pandemic times) also works to have the older students serve as mentors to the younger students. Hope feels like a family to my children!... - Caney Valley High SchoolCaney Valley Unified School District, KS•7-12•Rating 3.79 out of 5 42 reviewsAlum: My experience at Caney Valley High was a short two years. I moved to Caney from a rival school my junior year of high school and graduated from Caney my senior year. Caney Valley treated me as one of their own. The staff at Caney Valley High are a different breed of people, they love each and every one of their students. I decided to further my education at Coffeyville Community College and Caney teaching staff has successfully prepared me for the challenging, yet rewarding experience that college brings. Not only do they have excellent teachers, Caney also has many diverse excellent extracurricular activities and phenomenal coaches. My only complaint is the school lunches as they were sub-par to say the least. Overall, my time at Caney Valley, although short, was a great experience and it makes me wish I had gone to school there since kindergarten.... - Field Kindley High SchoolCoffeyville Unified School District, KS•9-12•Rating 3.55 out of 5 33 reviewsAlum: My experience at Field Kindley High School was one I will never forget. The encouragement from my teachers and other staff members was always so helpful and they would always make sure their students were succeeding with their short term goals so they can graduate and achieve more goals when they arrived at the college of their dreams. I was not only involved with sports (tennis and track) I was also involved in choir; which I would learn songs and take them to state to sing for singing judges. This school broke me out of my shy bubble and I recommend it to anyone considering going!... - Tyro Community Christian SchoolTyro, KS•Private School•PK, K-12•Rating 4.33 out of 5 6 reviewsAlum: I went here preschool all the way through my senior year. It prepared me well for ministry, it sets a good base for your faith. My biggest criticism of the academic side of things would be poor teaching in science most of high school, and an English teacher who spends more time telling you how hard her class is and yelling at the class for not doing things perfectly than teaching useful skills. The athletics are mediocre now, they only have basketball for the guys and volleyball and basketball for the girls. They also have elementary soccer, but the coaches for the most part are unqualified parents who favor their kids so much they don’t even pretend to try and be fair.... From the small class sizes to the caring teachers, I know my kids are getting exactly what they need to prep them for life to come. Each teacher has been so intentional about getting to know each of my elementary school kids. - St. Thomas SchoolMedina, WA•Private School•PK, K-8•Rating 4 out of 5 4 reviewsParent: What an amazing experience my child has had at this school! 1. Community: My child is excited to go to school. A great deal of that excitement is because there is such a strong sense of community. Whether or not a teacher has had your child in their classroom, they know your child. Each morning begins with Chapel, a time for the entire school to come together and discuss different topics ranging from character-development to world religions. 2. Celebration and Exploration: Different cultures and holidays are celebrated and explored, which not only creates understanding but also an awareness of what it means to be a global citizen. For my family, this is very important. 3. Character Development: While the academic curriculum is excellent, we wanted a place that looks to develop the whole child. This is done in a variety of ways, through continuous public speaking opportunities to discussing what it means to be your authentic self. I could go on.......
